Eidolon is a catch-all term for the various types of summoned entities used by mages throughout Tempestas, though primarily associated with Maris Tranquillitas due to the prominent role they played in the Ventus-Pluvian War. Though often believed by those without magic education to be fully-formed creatures summoned from other planes of existence, the truth is that eidolons are beings of pure magic, given name and form through the ritual by which they were summoned. This is possible due to planes of magic being a sea of consciousness, allowing summoners to "tear away" a fragment of it to create a fully-realized being.[1]
With the discovery of the eidolon DHIYED in the hot spot beneath Paracelsus, magic researchers have been alerted to the potential existence of yet more powerful eidolons lurking within the arcane planes. The circumstances under which these eidolons are created is currently unknown, as DHIYED displayed a far greater power than any eidolon created by mages has ever shown.[2]
- ↑ "...It's as the entry says. A being made of pure magic. It's a complicated principle, but..." Solus drums his fingers on his leg, eyes closing as he thinks. "Magic isn't just energy. The magical planes are filled with consciousness, all floating freely and intermingling. An eidolon, traditionally, is a fragment of that magic-- usually summoning magic-- given name, and thus form, by a mage." (Mission Log, 1/7/2024)
- ↑ After Project Dusk Wing, we successfully pierced the ley line’s veil to find the source of the humming. What we have found we have tentatively labeled Unknown Arcane Entity 07 (designation “DHIYED”.) UAE-07 appears to be a manifestation of the eidolons of old– summoned creatures made of pure magic, but the name DHIYED is unregistered in the Rationarium Supermundae. If we didn’t name DHIYED, then perhaps no one did. Perhaps DHIYED is an eidolon in its purest form– an entity of pure creation magic with powers none of us could comprehend, until now.
