A former soldier of the 42nd, Bloodspiller Kallista Cornett was not the strongest soldier, nor the most skilled, nor the brightest. But what she lacked in all those traits she made up for in tenacity, always deep in the frontline, her frame's spear a force to be reckoned with simply by nature of volume of blows. Because of this, many soldiers in the 42nd looked up to her, including then-Bladebreaker Honoka. The two were close, Kallista serving as a mentor to the young Honoka, teaching her the lessons in battlefield flexibility that her rigid family failed to impress on her. There were rumors that their relationship was potentially even more, though both of them repeatedly denied the claim-- they were teacher and student, nothing more.
Unfortunately, Kallista's career came to an end when she was sent to take care of an Engel attack on the Tivluk settlement of Lanze. Though she fought valiantly in the wake of unbeatable odds, she found herself on the verge of complete obliteration in the grinder of a Zeruel-class Engel. Unwilling to let the mission end in failure, Kallista set her Vlad to self-destruct, taking out the Engels surrounding her but, with her eject mechanism damaged in the battle, sacrificing herself in the process. Her loss left a shadow hanging over the 42nd company, especially on the shattered Honoka, the woman she had looked up to most gone without so much as a farewell.
Kallista's loss still hangs heavy over Honoka, and while her upbringing did much to create the wall she keeps between herself and others, the death of the Bloodspiller fully cemented them for years until others came along who could help her look forward.
